I’m Ludovyck Mercier, a photographer based in Québec, Canada. My work focuses mainly on wildlife, nature and motorsport.
What draws me most to photography is the atmosphere of a moment. Sometimes it is the quiet of an early morning, the softness of fog, or the brief pause when an animal becomes aware of my presence. Other times, it is the energy, sound and movement of a race car entering a corner at speed.
One of the things I love most about being in nature is the moment when I begin to disappear into it. It is when the animals no longer seem to see me as a threat, and I start to feel less like an observer and more like part of the landscape around me. Those moments of trust and stillness are often the ones I try hardest to preserve in a photograph.
I try to carry some of that feeling into my images. For me, a photograph is most successful when it does more than show the subject. It should also give a sense of what it felt like to be there.
Whether I’m photographing wildlife in its environment or motorsport at the track, I’m drawn to light, space, movement and the relationship between a subject and the world around it.
Photography is still a learning journey for me. I’m constantly refining the way I see, edit and tell a story through an image, and this site is a place to share the photographs that best represent that journey.
